Our Making Schools Safe Project works in coalition with community
partners to foster a healthy and affirming academic atmosphere. Our
efforts are grounded in a mutual respect for all students by increasing
awareness of the negative atmosphere within schools created by
anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender bias.We work with students
and school officials in developing inclusive anti-harassment and
non-discrimination policies and offer support for the implementation of
those policies.
The ACLU of Eastern Missouri, in partnership with GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network), offers a free workshop for educators
on making the school setting safe for all students. This interactive
workshop consists of strategies and story telling. To get more
