Racial Profiling

Racial Profiling in Missouri continues to be a major concern. Towards this end Section 590.650 of Missouri Revised Statutes specifies that every time a peace officer stops a driver for violating a motor vehicle statute or ordinance, that officer must report certain driver information, including the driver's race, to his or her department. The agency then must compile the information from every traffic stop into an annual report to the Attorney General. The 2004 annual report is due March 1, 2005. This information can be found at Missouri Racial Profiling stats. This web site provides official statewide data collected, methodology, and police jurisdictional compliance information. The ACLU-EM informs the public about racial profiling through public speaking engagements and educational materials.
