Instructions: Changing Facebook Email Settings

These instructions are designed to help you tailor your Facebook settings so you are in control of the information flow. If you are someone who uses Facebook frequently, you can check in on our Facebook Group pages to get updates. A link to the Facebook Group page will be on the left side of your Newsfeed.

If you do not check Facebook frequently, you might want any updates to appear in your email. That way you won’t miss anything. If you received an email telling you that you have been confirmed as a member of the group, then you are ready to go. But if you want to turn that email on or off, or if you want to limit your email flow, here’s how to do it. And remember, before you throw your hands up in despair, you can always call John, whose contact info is at the bottom of this page.

1) Go to the Facebook Group page. You can get there from the link on the left side of your Newsfeed, or you can do a search at the top of your Facebook page.

2) In the upper right hand corner of the Facebook Group page, you will see a button that says “Notifications.”

3) Click on the down arrow to bring down the Notifications menu and click on “Settings.”

4) A window will open. Where it says “Notify me about” set it on “All Posts.”

5) If you want to receive emails from our group, make sure to check the box that says, “Also send an email to” and check to see that your email address is correct. If you do not want emails, make sure the box is unchecked. Save your changes.

6) If you checked the email box in step 5, you have just a little bit more to do. Open your Notifications menu again and click on “Settings.” Click on the link at the bottom of the window that says, “edit your notifications settings.”

7) You will be taken to a page called, “Notification Settings.” Make sure the box in the upper right corner called “Email Frequency” is unchecked.

8) Under “Recent Notifications, you will see your Facebook activity—items posted to you, comments about something you posted, etc. You can decide which types of information you want sent to your email by clicking on the envelope to the right of each item. Don’t turn off any items posted to you; if you do you will no longer see our group posts in your email. But you may want to turn off comments about posts or “likes” in order to limit your email traffic.

If ANY of this is confusing or doesn’t get you a desired result. Contact John Chasnoff at john@aclu-em.org

or call 314-652-3114, ext. 260. He can walk you through it. We want to make this start-up as easy for you as possible, so don’t hesitate to ask.
