Voting Rights Lawsuit Filed
:
ACLU/EM files lawsuit on behalf of St. Louis City voters who have been disenfranchised and who we anticipate are likely again to be disenfranchised on Tuesday. These voters have been unable to exercise their constitutional right to vote because of practices and procedures used by the St. Louis Election Board.
Voting Rights in St. Louis
:
The ACLU of Eastern Missouri is calling Monday night's order from Circuit Judge Robert H. Dierker a victory for St. Louis voters. The order prohibits election judges from turning away registered voters who can affirm that they live in the precinct served by that polling place.
Governor Urged to Look at Capital Case
:
Citing disturbing legal issues, the ACLU of Eastern Missouri today urged Governor Holden to commute the sentence of Stanley Lingar, who is scheduled to be executed by the State on Feb. 7.
Asset Forfeiture Reform
:
A measure to reform Missouri's Civil Asset Forfeiture Act (CAFA) will be signed into law today by Governor Bob Holden in Jefferson City. The new law will require Missouri police departments to deposit seized assets into a public education fund, as required by the Missouri Constitution.
