Saying pending federal legislation would only hurt those it should be helping, the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri today joined a rally held on the steps of the Old Courthouse in downtown St. Louis to decry the lack of an effective legislative fix to the problems plaguing America's electoral system.
ACLU Joins SLAPP Suit
:
The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri announced today that it would file briefs in support of six Creve Coeur citizens sued by Mayor Annette Mandel and Council Member Judy Pass after the residents publicly aired concerns about the process of appointments to a citizens advisory committee.
SLAPP Suit Dismissed
:
St. Louis County Circuit Judge David Lee Vincent III has dismissed a libel lawsuit filed by Creve Coeur Mayor Annette Mandel against six Creve Coeur residents. The suit claimed that the residents engaged in libel and slander when they publicly criticized the mayor for her handling of appointments to a citizens advisory committee.
ACLU/EM Receives LGBT Award
:
ACLU/EM accepts the 2002 Jim Hoefer Community Service Award from Pride St. Louis for being the organization that "best exemplifies what it means to serve St. Louis' Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgendered Community.

Voting Case Resolved
:
The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri announced today that it has resolved its long-standing class action lawsuit against the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners concerning voting processes and procedures that resulted in the disenfranchisement of hundreds of St. Louis voters during the November 2000 elections.

Cole County Circuit Judge Thomas J. Brown III will preside over a hearing concerning whether the Department of Corrections must make public the procedures used for executing individuals sentenced to the death penalty.
