A legal clerkship for first, second or third-year law students, available year-round.
Duties
- Assist Legal Director in developing cases for litigation
- Conduct
legal research on civil liberties matters and prepare legal memoranda
analyzing Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties issues
- Draft demand letters, pleadings and briefs in cases
- Interview clients and engage in client counseling
- Attend meetings of the ACLU-EM Legal Steering Committee
- Attend court hearings on cases and participate in other special intern activities
- Organize and manage case files; meet with lawyers and clients as needed in cases

Qualifications
- Basic Legal Research and Writing Skills
- Familiarity with Lexis or Westlaw
- Interest in Constitutional Law and Civil Liberties (coursework in these areas not necessary, but helpful)
