Legislative Internship

Spring Semester: 10 - 12 hours/week, Credit available.

Duties

  • Research legislative issues relating to civil rights and civil liberties
  • Track bills and legislation
  • Draft legislative analysis, fact sheets and other lobbying tools
  • Contact legislators concerning legislation
  • Assist executive director and lobbyist in lobbying activities

Educational Benefits

  • Learn about a variety of civil rights and civil liberties issues
  • Develop strong communication and advocacy skills
  • Work in coalitions and other collaborative efforts
  • Develop skills in identifying and using regulations and protocols
  • Go to Jefferson City to lobby legislators, and participate in other special intern activities: hear speakers on civil rights and civil liberties issues, tour a jail, attend court hearings, etc.
